My "Best Of Extreme" CD

I'd compiled my favorite Extreme songs a little over five years ago and recently started listening to the CD again. At the Freddie Mercury tribute concert, Brian May said that Extreme was "probably the one band that most understands what Queen was all about." I think it's a little harsh to call them "hair metal"; funky metal with lots of vocals is how I think of them. Here are the songs:

Beethoven on the keyboards (and then getting kicked off) was a classic scene! I loved that movie. Reeve's famous 'Woah' line in The Matrix was actually a parody of his Ted character. Anyway, after I heard that song, I literally whent out the next day to find the album. I can't remember if I got it that day or not but I do remember that the search took me through several stores.

Yeah, I really dug that movie and still think it's a classic. I had a B&T poster up in my room for a few years after it came out. :) I still have the original B&T soundtrack tape (which has some other decent songs on it as well) and the soundtrack CD of Bogus Journey (which has the King's X non-album track "Junior's Gone Wild").

I had BJ on VHS for years but had never bought the tape of the original movie, and it was out of print for years. About 6 months after I picked up a used VHS copy of it at a flea market, it was released on DVD. Doh!

I always hoped that the Queen Medley would get officially released - it was the highlight of that concert by far, and was probably *the* moment I started taking the band seriously.

Ever since my original 2+ hour VHS of the concert (with Extreme's medley) was destroyed, I wanted a new one. The only DVD prints I've seen are abridged and have it cut out.

"Play With Me" is what put them on my "to buy" list, hearing "Mutha" on 102.5 whilst on a beer run is what made me go buy the album.


You've got a great list, but there are two "musts" missing:

Waiting For the Punchline (the final hidden track)
Monica


My list would also have:

Unconditionally
Sex'n'Love (yeah, the chorus owes something to Queen's "Hammer Will Fall", but still a nice one)
Don't Leave Me Alone


I like all of their albums, but these days, it seems III Sides is the only one I listen to.

Those songs are the most I could fit on one CD... at least at the time. I'll have to check and see if it was a 74-minute CD. Could work in an extra 6 minutes these days.

Yes, I dig "Punchline" as well, and "Unconditionally".
