My ST:TOS Co-Favorite

I only own two Star Trek (The Original Series) episodes, on VHS, and they're my favorites. I just watched "Mirror, Mirror" for the first time in a while and I loved it all over again.

What's your favorite Trek?

Comments

I do not know episode titles and I am unsure if I have the name right but being a Trekker you will know which I mean. Tribbles (spelling) and I loved the Next Gen Episode that they merged the old series with the new one.

I just read the description of Mirror, Mirror, that is a great episode. Kurt Albin, Brutal Deluxe Banyanator team owner used to joke all the time about this episode. Whenever someone was goateed he would say it was the evil persona of that person.

The TOS episode was "The Trouble With Tribbles" and I think you're referring to the Deep Space Nine episode "Trials and Tribble-ations". I'm a big Worf fan and loved the lines they gave him in the DS9 ep.

Deep Space Nine is probably the series I've watched the least since its original run, but I really did like it. Just not enough to spend $100 a season on the DVDs. (Thanks, Paramount!)

Ah yes, right you are. On all accounts, I too have watched DS9 the least and I will never spend that kind of bucks on a TV Show series.

I've been thinking about this recently, as I'm preparing a "Best of Trek" DVD for a friend as an intro to the franchise. My favorites are:

10) "City on the Edge of Forever" - TOS
The first classic episode

9) "Year of Hell" - VOY
Voyager on this list? I'm surprised too. :)

8) a) "Whispers" - DS9
Best "twist" ending in Trek

b) "Visionary" - DS9
Ok, so I crammed two O'Brien episodes in this slot; they are both awesome, and I couldn't push "City.." out of the top 10. This one provides an awesome twist on the old Trek "time travel" stories.

7)"Improbable Cause/The Die Is Cast" - DS9
Best "mini-arc" of the Dominion war.

6) "Duet" - DS9
Stellar acting and writing.

5) "Homcoming/The Circle/The Siege" - DS9
Superb writing, mixing politics, religion and great characterization. This is where DS9 really started to take off.

4) "Children of Time" - DS9
Mindbending, complex, and emotional, though not as mindbending as #2

3) "The Inner Light" - TNG
A powerful, powerful, episode. No words can describe it.

2) "Parallels" - TNG
The creativity in this episode is simply incredible. Perfect execution of a perfect script.

1) "The Visitor" - DS9
I won't say a word about this one; those who've seen it will understand, and those who haven't, GO FIND IT AND WATCH IT!

Honorable Mention:
"Balance of Terror" - TOS
"Whom Gods Destroy" - TOS
"All Our Yesterdays" -TOS
"The Trouble With Tribbles" - TOS
"Future Imperfect" - TNG
"In The Cards" - DS9
"Past Tense" - DS9
"Paradise" - DS9
"Crossover" - DS9
"The Collaborator" - DS9
"In the Hands of the Prophets" - DS9
"Hard Time" - DS9
"Waltz" - DS9
"Shattered" - VOY
"The Thaw" - VOY
"Timescape" - VOY (this looks like it was a candidate to be the Voyager finale, and it should have been, IMHO)
"Deathwish" - VOY

Looks like I shortchanged TNG a bit in my "honorable mention" category. I should have mentioned:

"Frame of Mind" (Or "Frakes of Mind", as Alex calls it :)
"Yesterday's Enterprise"
"A Matter of Honor" (the first truly great TNG episode)
"Second Chances"

And I also messed up above, and meant to say "Shattered" instead of "Timescape".

I agree with your top 3 and, of course, #6 ("The Inner Light, part 2" ;) ). I'd rank "City..." higher - it's my other co-favorite ST:TOS ep.

You and I watched many of these episodes together; brings back some memories.

I really wish I had Spike so I could watch the reruns. I haven't watched a DS9 episode in forever. I guess I should probably rent some of the discs.

Also: good catch on "Frakes Of Mind", but don't you remember "The Two Rikers"? ;)

Although no doubt I have seen every one of these episodes, I am humbled by your Trek knowledge.

Yep, Byron (Phil) and I are Trekkers for sure. I've loved Trek ever since I was a kid and am sad to see Enterprise canceled.

BTW, your Gravatar is of your evil persona. ;)

"The Two Rikers", now THAT brings back memories! Mark still remembers it; he mentioned it recently.

My Trek knowledge was fueled by my parents who have purchased every ST episode in every format they've been released in, I believe. (Beta, Laserdisc, VHS, and now DVD).

I'm currently "borrowing" bits of their collection at a time.

Hey Alex, how do you see #6("Duet") as "Inner Light, pt II"?

Of course it is my evil persona, infact, how do you know this is really me... err I mean good Scott.

I am sorry to see Enterprise canceled as well. I will watch it up until the end. I actually thought the cast was really coming around nicely this season.

I have seen every episode of every series as far as I know, but I do not have any on DVD or any other format. So that hurts my abilities to name episodes etc. I just know when I see them if I really like them.

RE: "Duet" - I didn't read the "DS9" tag you put on it and I thought you were referring to the TNG ep "Lessons" (where Picard "duets" with Cmdr. Daren). ;)

Tell Mark I said YO.
