Let It Snow

We moved our normal grocery shopping trip from Saturday morning to yesterday evening to avoid having to go out in the snow storm forecast for today. The latest news is that we're to expect 8-12" accumulation today. Ryan can't wait to get out in the stuff and play, although it'll be for short periods, since it is supposed to be quite cold today (high of 22°F). There's a chill in the house, even with the gas logs on.

Ironically, Ryan has his first swim class in a while tomorrow; hopefully the storm will have subsided by then.

We're still experiencing heavy snowfall here (although it had stopped briefly last night, giving me false hope that this would end long before this afternoon). I just want to get everything shovelled before football starts, and I want the power to stay on - we've been getting some off surges here and there, so the microwave is now off-limits...

Yeah - you guys east of us definitely got more of a pounding. We ended up with about 4.5" of snow, ending mostly mid-afternoon yesterday. It's still blowing around, but it's manageable for the most part and the roads are "clear enough".

Stay warm!

Jake and I were outside shoveling and playing twice on Saturday. The darn snow drifted back over the driveway some on Sunday though. It was too cold on Sunday to have Jake outside again. I think it was in the single digits on Sunday, brrrr....

I made the mistake of going to get groceries on Friday in anticipation of having my daughter and her friend over for the weekend. I have never seen a line so long in a grocery store. The line for the self-checkout at the Linglestown Giant was the whole way into the produce section.

I really didn't think the snow was that bad. I took my girlfriend, my daughter, and her friend out to rent some movie around 8:00 on Saturday and found Blockbuster closed. It was surprising how many businesses were closed.

Being a Buffalonian for 10 years, this area seems to me to overreact to snow forecasts. I guess there's not much faith in our governments' snow removal capabilities. ;)

We go to the Weis at the Paxton Towne Center and it was busier than normal, but nowhere near the level of business I see at the Giants in the area. We live closer to the Giant near I-83/Union Deposit but it's so busy (and its aisles are so narrow) that we avoid going there.

We wanted to head out somewhere close for dinner on Saturday evening; since the snow had stopped and the roads were passable, we headed out to Cafe Fresco. It was closed, along with the Harrisburg Mall and the local fast-food places. Luckily the new Ruby Tuesday's on the way back was open.

As a lifetime central PA resident I concur that the area overreacts to snow forecasts. I however do not. :) I routinely leave my refrigrator nearly empty with only a half gallon of milk and get this, possibly no bread! Even though I am well aware that snow is in the forecast. I like to live on the edge. I do some other risky things too but I will leave them for another post. ;)
