"Show me your ID."

Via Slashdot: Papersplease.org.

Is it April 1st?

Isn't this the United States of America? "Give me liberty or give me death" and all that?

I'll be reading more about this a little later, but I figured I'd post something in the meantime.

The easy thing would of been for him to show his ID I thought as I watched it. But I certainly feel the guy was not in the wrong at all. I particularly like the quote on the page from Ben Franklin. I used that a few months ago and Reagan used a similar quote in his goodbye speech.

Great link, and I certainly think something is rotten in Washington when they do not back this guy. Sad, sad state. The crackdown on freedoms in this country is one reason why I will be voting the way I plan to in November. :)

I've watched the video. Other than seeming a little drunk (but I don't know the man), Hiibel didn't appear to do anything wrong. I think if the officer had been more forthright about why he had stopped, Hiibel wouldn't have thought the stop was about his parking job. The officer clearly got caught up in Hiibel's refusal to comply with his demand.

I'm going to read the Supreme Court's opinions on the matter. While I do, I'm going to try and put aside the fact that they may have no way to put themselves into the context of rural Nevada. Maybe that's where they think the terrorists are?
