Bait And Switch

I'm glad I'm not an iTunes Music Store customer: APPLE TUNES UP.

Why Big Music thinks that anything greater than $12-$13 is an acceptable price for a single-CD release (or online equivalent) is beyond me. The fact that they're trying to make legal online music more expensive to purchase than its physical (and higher-quality) counterpart is enough evidence for me to declare they aren't showing an interest in developing the digital music marketplace.

(Seen on Slashdot.)

Update: Apple denies they're raising prices.

Actually, I really like the iTunes Music Store. Well, I'm an Apple user too but I think it's great. I've listened to some really good music on there and even found one of my favorite bands (The Casket Lottery) on the ITMS that I can't find ANYWHERE else. So far I've purchased 19 songs in the ITMS.

I'll admit to not having taken the time to browse the ITMS; it's one reason I didn't reply to your blog entry where you asked for song ideas to redeem your Pepsi/iTunes bottle cap. I think online music stores are a great way for lesser-distributed bands to get more exposure and sales, but I still don't think that it's right to apply physical-media price points to the current RIAA-sanctioned digital music products.

What do you think about the prices you've paid for the music you've bought? Have you bought singles or albums or both? Have you wanted to do anything more with the music than iTunes will allow?

Well I started to use allofmp3.com and I recommend it as a cheap, online music store. I always thought there was a need for a store that could get you your music instantly, now here it is.
