The Draft

I have to admit that as much as I love the NFL, I've never really followed the draft. I think it's because I'm not much of a college football fan. I usually rely on the pre-season pundits to write about what rookies are going to make an impact on fantasy football in their first season. I think it takes equal parts of talent, team needs, and coaching faith for a rookie to have a breakout season.

Who will break out this year? Just looking at the first-round picks, my guess is (just rolling the dice here) Jacksonville's new WR Reggie Williams. Leftwich will make him a star. You heard it here first.

Comments

I just finished a round of golf and entered the clubhouse as they announced the Giants / Chargers trade. Everybody let out a surprised comment about what the Giants gave up. Eli better be good or New York will let him know it.

I'm sure Collins won't want to find out how good Eli is. ;) I wonder if Eli will work out well enough to relegate Jesse Palmer to third-string.

For what they gave up, he better at least be second string this year and take them to the playoffs next season followed by a Super Bowl title. New York Giants fans did not look happy when they announced the trade. The next few seasons in New York will be really interesting.

Looks like there are some developments. Coach Coughlin is indicating that Collins would have to take a pay cut to stay with the team next season. The author of the linked article thinks Eli will start next season; not unprecedented for a new coach's first year. Will lightning strike twice? We'll have to see.

Also, it looks like my prediction is taking shape: now-former Jags WR Kevin Johnson has been dealt to the Ravens.

Hearing rumors of Collins in Oakland. That might be interesting...
