Alias Games

My wife and I are annoyed that ABC is treating Alias (and with it The Practice) like a monthly series instead of a weekly one. Instead of temporarily moving it to another time slot while they use 9PM Sundays for other stuff, they pre-empt it for weeks on end. This message over on the official message board sums it up.

The networks really seem to be treating many of their filmed shows with contempt. I can only assume it's because reality programming currently enjoys higher ratings. Who and where are the Neilsens? I'd like to talk to them about their viewing habits.

Comments

I hate reality shows I have watched next to none. They cannot go away soon enough for me. I cannot wait for the current reality phase to leave. It is probably here to stay in some sense.

I haven't been able to watch the Practice since the cast reshuffle. Heck I didn't even know it happened, then I turn it on and half the cast is gone. Dillon McDermott(if that is the right name) is a much better choice that Spader for that role. IMO.

The funny thing about this post is I was just thinking last night that I can't wait until the "reality" TV phase is over. The only show I like that is "reality" is Survivor. I think it's the fact that they aren't coddled and get all bit up by bugs(and sharks) and only two of them really get anything.

I confess I liked the WWE reality show on MTV. But I do not think it was renewed after the second season. I do not watch MTV at all so maybe it had a third season. The reason I liked it, because they beat the hell out of them. :)

The reality show is not too bad when they do not put the people up in a mansion or in paradise. If the reality show phase ends someone will actually have to use their imagination to come up with a story again.

I'm a fan of Survivor, and I don't mind the finals of American Idol. We liked The Mole as well, but the Celebrity Mole just isn't the same. Other than that, most of the rest of the reality stuff is questionable to me.

What I'm wondering is what'll be put on in place of long-running shows like "Friends" and "Frasier" now that they're leaving the air. Probably the fourth and fifth versions of "Law & Order". ;)

I forgot to comment about the current state of "The Practice"; I'd rather see the show in its current state than not at all. From the articles I read, the show was given back its 10PM Sunday slot on the condition that it slim down its budget. For an established show like that, it means you have to let go of some of your stars. I like McDermott but the whole "tortured Bobby Donnell" thing was really beginnning to get tiresome. I think they kept the right actors and bringing James Spader on has been a good deal. New lead characters with their own baggage can be interesting, and I think "Alan Shore" is.

I enjoyed Sharon Stone's arc earlier in the season; however, I didn't really like Chris O'Donnell's.

I get some enjoyment out of American Idol too. It is funny how horrible some people are and that it never occurs to them! I also like singing, so I like to hear good voices(finals). Since you brought up Law and Order and it's many incarnations, I'd like to mention that I really like the CI version.

The lead investigator is like a modern-day Sherlock Holmes. The thing I really like about that character is that he isn't all arrogance(like Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's characters). He is quirky, obsessive, etc. CSI is also another one of my favorite shows, but I can't stand CSI:Miami. But that is mostly because I don't like David Caruso.

But, I still prefer Seinfeld!

Seinfeld never gets old. Each episode plays upon the previous ones and itself like a big feedback loop.

"Mulva!"
