The Deed Is Done

Well, I've made the move to Movable Type. I'm running on my slightly faster Windows 2000 server. I know enough about IIS to be dangerous, and tackled the virtual hosting "monster" relatively quickly. I think things are set up well for a trial run.

The contents of the old website are all here thanks to MT's text-based import scheme. It's certainly a different paradigm than Squishdot, but all the content is here. I've tried to spruce up the default MT templates for the grand opening, and have replicated most of the content from the old site. I'd like to continue to syndicate Don's headlines, so that's another hurdle I'll attack this weekend.

I'm pretty impressed with MT's implementation of CSS. It's providing a great framework for me to learn more about it.

More to come.

Thanks to Scotbuff for pointing out a configuration problem with the site. Virtual hosting and MT are strange bedfellows, it seems.

Works fine now. Love the new look. :)

Thanks. The look is 95% of the MT default, so I can't take a ton of credit for it. Once I get out of "system admin/tweaking" mode, I can get back to being an observationalist. ;)

You might try talking to my friend Miranda - She's wrestled with MT quite a bit. Her site is http://www.gardenvariety.net .

I think I have the virtual hosting thing solved. Both my sites now use the MT CGI located at http://alexharden.org/mt/. Not a bad compromise. I looked through the MT support forums a little and this seems to be a common way to handle it, short of having a copy of the MT CGI on your server for each virtual site.
