My 4-Week NFL Review (Real and Fantasy)

I knew this NFL season would be interesting due to the realignment, but I have to say that after four weeks of play (with two bye weeks already) things are absolutely crazy! San Diego undefeated and St. Louis winless? Looking at things now, there were definitely very few safe bets going into this season. But that's what makes the NFL great.

I personally follow the Eagles, Ravens, Steelers, and Bills, the first two because they are fed to us in Harrisburg as our "local" teams, and this season I'm also trying to check out the Rams and Jaguars, as I have several players from each team on my fantasy team. The Eagles have been great so far this year, but the first quarter and a half against Houston last week was a little hairy. Watching the Ravens pound the Broncos Monday night was a treat; the 107-yard failed-field-goal return by McAlister was icing on the cake. What a great first half of football that was for Ravens fans! I haven't had a chance to watch the Steelers yet this year, but I will probably watch their game this Sunday against Oakland. Kordell Stewart was my backup fantasy QB, but I never started him, even with Kurt Warner's lack of production, and now he's off my team. I got to watch the Bills/Broncos game, and I thought they actually did quite well against Denver.

My fantasy team is 2-2, and I've had to make some personnel changes to adjust to the current state of things. After week 3, I dumped Matt Stover (who didn't have a good game until Monday night) and replaced him with Phil Dawson, who is having a good season so far with the Browns. After Warner's injury last weekend, I dumped Frank Wycheck and grabbed Warner's backup, Jamie Martin. I guess I have some faith that the Rams are going to shore things up soon and post some decent stats soon. I also dumped Kordell and picked up Chicago QB Jim Miller, based on his stats so far, particularly his 7 TD / 4 INT ratio. I'm hoping to win a third fantasy matchup this weekend (I'm starting Martin this week).

I'm certainly not in a position to comment on every team in the league (nor would you want to read my comments on them, I bet), so I'll just end this article with the hope that the Thunderbolts are more than .500 when we hit week 8! And I'd love to see more Bills games - go Drew!
