Winamp 3 Is Out

I downloaded the new Winamp 3 the other day and installed it. It's actually pretty cool. My favorite feature so far is to minimize it to just the one bar, then strech the bar to 200%, set it to 30% opacity, and "always on top". Then it put it up on the top of my screen. Pretty cool. I really haven't played any videos with it yet or tried to use its media library functionality. If you're already a Winamp user and have some CPU cycles to spare for the new features, I'd definitely say "check it out."

Comments

I worry about Winamp adding so many features that it becomes bloated and slow. The same thing happened to Windows Media Player (6.4 is simple, straightforward, and fast - WMP7 and MPXP are none of those things), and I'm already seeing it happen with WA3 (skin changes, which used to be instantaneous, now take about 4 seconds on my office PIII-450)

Yeah, I definitely think they bloated it a little bit. I am using the default skin for now. I think I'll like it better when some of the better WA 2.x plugins for compression/limiting and crossfading are recreated or ported to WA3. The default crossfading isn't all that great.
